Lynn’s Story
My teaching journey began in 1996, after completing a Psychology degree at Leicester University. I joined the Japanese English Teaching (JET) Programme, gained a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and set off to see the world.
After several years teaching in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, I returned to the UK to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Primary) at the University of Hull. In 2001, I began teaching in London—first in the state sector, then in independent schools.
Over the next decade, I taught in some of London’s most highly regarded schools. At Notting Hill & Ealing High School, followed by Kensington Prep (named Prep School of the Year during my tenure), and later Wimbledon High School, I supported students through the demanding London system. I worked with pupils of all abilities, including many with learning differences, guiding both my class students and private tutees into leading senior schools.
In 2011, I moved to Bermuda with my husband and joined Saltus Grammar School, initially supporting a student with Auditory Processing Disorder before returning to full-time classroom teaching in Years 1 and 4, alongside Senior Management responsibilities. During this time, my private tutoring work grew steadily, and by 2014 I was ready to establish my own educational consultancy—School of Choice.
Since then, I have worked with children from Reception through Year 8, combining academic teaching with a focus on executive functioning, motivation, self-advocacy, and resilience. At School of Choice, I design bespoke learning plans to help each child flourish—whether that means achieving success in their current school, preparing for competitive entrance exams, or securing a place at the independent or boarding school of their dreams.
Now based in Surrey, I continue to support families locally and internationally. With many of my clients relocating between countries, I provide guidance not only for students in the UK but also for expat families seeking placements in prestigious independent and boarding schools worldwide.
At the heart of my work is a strong, personal connection with each student. My goal is always to unlock confidence, nurture curiosity, and inspire a life-long love of learning.
